Deduction of Tax at source or TDS
TDS is one of the modes of recovery of Income Tax. The provisions relating to TDS not only help catch more and more people in the tax. The provisions relating to TDS not only help catch more and more people in the tax net but they also ensure true and full disclosure of income in the tax return.
The Government has vastly enlarged the scope of tax deduction at source (TDS), vide Finance Act 1955. Certain categories of tax payers are under statutory obligations to deduct tax at source under statutory obligations to deduct tax at source under the provisions of IT Act 1961.
